Trucking Accidents in Tampa Explained by 1-800-ASK-GARY

Trucks are considered the backbone of our society. Without trucks on the highway, transporting goods from one location to another efficiently would be unnecessarily expensive and challenging. However, when truck drivers are negligent, trucks are not maintained properly, or company owners are careless regarding safety regulations, it becomes a danger for other drivers on the road. There are many different kinds of trucking accidents, all causing harm to both your property and yourself.

Truck Accident Types

  • Jackknife – Jackknifing occurs when the driver brakes quickly and aggressively. The weight of the trailer it is pulling goes against the traction of the cab, folding itself so that the cab creates a 90-degree angle.
  • Tire Blowout – Tire blowouts can happen to anyone in any vehicle. When a tire blowout occurs, it often forcibly removes the driver of any control. This causes the truck to spin out in all directions. This is dangerous not only to the driver but also to others on the road.
  • Wide Turn – The semi-driver will take a “wide turn.” This is when the driver first swings left to have the room to make a right turn. When the semi-driver isn’t aware of their surroundings, they can accidentally trap pedestrians and vehicles.
  • Truck Rollovers – If the driver loses control of the semi, it may slide and roll over onto its side. This incident can be hazardous and harm or even kill many innocent victims on the road.
  • Rear-end – The weight of these large semi-trucks can cause significant damage and even death in a rear-end accident.
  • Lost Load – When a truckload is not secured correctly, those loads can fall out of the semi while on the road. This accident can cause extreme injury as well as multi-car accidents.
  • T-Bone – T-bone accidents occur when a truck driver runs a red light and hits another vehicle perpendicularly, causing a t-shape between the two vehicles.
  • Under Ride – This accident is considered one of the scariest and most deadly accidents involving a semi. This is when a truck stops abruptly in front of a much smaller vehicle. When these smaller vehicles are quickly approaching and do not have time to stop, they can become lodged under the truck’s trailer.
  • Head-On – Head-on collisions with semi-trucks are often considered the most devastating accidents. This accident causes severe injury and even death.
